Option 2

OPTION 2: COMPREHENSIVE ENERGY AUDIT Performed By HERS Rater

HERS Raters are highly trained and certified in using building diagnostic techniques that assess the energy performance of a home. Some Raters are also certified to perform and interpret infrared analysis (thermal imaging) of a home’s ability to maintain temperature and seasonal comfort levels as well as diagnose sources of heat loss, duct leakage and water leakage (got ice dams?), under-insulated areas/missing insulation or poor installation of systems and can make recommendations based on these findings. If you require a higher degree of assistance or own a larger, more complicated home with multiple systems and/or trouble spots, a HERS Rater can provide a full range of services.

*Available Services (chosen by Homeowner)
  • Visual inspection of home: Building envelope, systems, etc.
  • Diagnostic testing: Blower Door testing, Duct testing, Combustion Safety Testing, Infrared Analysis, other services
  • “Test-in/Test-out”: Baseline testing before any work is performed. Testing upon completion of work to determine if work is performed properly and to appropriate standards
  • Computer energy modeling and projected cost savings realized as result of upgrades
  • Customized “blueprint” for future strategies based on homeowner’s budget and level of interest/need
  • Project management of  implementation of chosen upgrades to ensure homeowner satisfaction
  • This type of auditor is a professional HERS Rater certified by RESNET. He is an independent contractor and works directly for the homeowner.

 ·
*     All fees for services are paid by the homeowner but the Rater can provide access and guide the homeowner through the process to obtain rebates and incentives for weatherization upgrades. In addition, the Rater does not receive commissions on any part of the work to perform the upgrades unless requested and agreed to by the homeowner.

HW Green supports initiatives which encourage using the services of local professionals. Please see their individual listings/websites on the Mass Save & RESNET sites.
